2023 Tesla Model 3

Safety

The 500e has standard whiplash protection, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the whiplash protection system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Model 3 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The 500e has standard Uconnect 9-1-1, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Model 3 doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the 500e and the Model 3 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

There are over 2 times as many Fiat dealers as there are Tesla dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the 500e’s warranty.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the 500e’s turning circle is 6.5 feet tighter than the Model 3’s (31.5 feet vs. 38 feet).

Chassis

The Fiat 500e may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 900 to 1100 pounds less than the Tesla Model 3.

The 500e is 3 feet, 6.8 inches shorter than the Model 3, making the 500e easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The 500e is 10.1 inches narrower than the Model 3, making the 500e easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

Ergonomics

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the 500e has a standard rear wiper. The Model 3 doesn’t offer a rear wiper.
