The Jeep Wagoneer L has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Q7 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Wagoneer L has standard Active Headrests, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Headrests system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Q7 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

With its standard Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning Plus, the Jeep Wagoneer L is better at preventing collisions with pedestrians than the Audi Q7, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety:

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Jeep Wagoneer L achieved an “Acceptable” rating for its forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, outperforming the Audi Q7 which scored “Poor” - the lowest rating - in these critical safety features.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Wagoneer L Grand helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The Q7 doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Wagoneer L and the Q7 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive, around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

The Jeep Wagoneer L weighs 932 to 1755 pounds more than the Audi Q7. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

A significantly tougher test than their original offset frontal crash test, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety does 40 MPH small overlap frontal offset crash tests. In this test, where only 25% of the total width of the vehicle is struck, results indicate that the Jeep Wagoneer L is safer than the Q7:

Jeep’s powertrain warranty covers the Wagoneer L 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Audi covers the Q7. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the Q7 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

Jeep pays for scheduled maintenance on the Wagoneer L for 2 years and unlimited miles. Jeep will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance (up to 2 visits). Audi only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Q7.

There are almost 8 times as many Jeep dealers as there are Audi dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Wagoneer L’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jeep vehicles are better in initial quality than Audi vehicles. With 42 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Jeep higher than Audi.

The Wagoneer L’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder produces 159 more horsepower (420 vs. 261) and 195 lbs.-ft. more torque (468 vs. 273) than the Q7 45 TFSI’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid. The Wagoneer L’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder produces 85 more horsepower (420 vs. 335) and 99 lbs.-ft. more torque (468 vs. 369) than the Q7 55 TFSI’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid. The Grand Wagoneer L’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder produces 205 more horsepower (540 vs. 335) and 152 lbs.-ft. more torque (521 vs. 369) than the Q7 55 TFSI’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid.

The Wagoneer L has 8 gallons more fuel capacity than the Q7 (30.5 vs. 22.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Wagoneer L has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Q7 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Jeep Wagoneer L higher (6 out of 10) than the Audi Q7 (4). This means the Wagoneer L produces up to 12.1 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Q7 every 15,000 miles.

For better stopping power the Wagoneer L’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Q7:

For better traction, the Wagoneer L has larger standard tires than the Q7 (275/55R20 vs. 255/55R19).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Wagoneer L has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Q7. The Wagoneer L’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the Q7.

The Jeep Wagoneer L’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Audi Q7 only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Wagoneer L has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Q7 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Wagoneer L has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Q7; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed. Some tire options on the Q7 don’t have a run-flat feature, either.

The Wagoneer L offers an optional automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Wagoneer L’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Q7 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Wagoneer L’s wheelbase is 12.1 inches longer than on the Q7 (130 inches vs. 117.9 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Wagoneer L is 2.3 inches wider in the front and 1.7 inches wider in the rear than on the Q7.

For greater off-road capability the Wagoneer L Air Suspension has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Q7 w/Air Suspension (10 vs. 9.7 inches), allowing the Wagoneer L to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The front grille of the Wagoneer L uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Q7 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Wagoneer L uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Q7 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Wagoneer L offers optional seating for 8 passengers; the Q7 can only carry 7.

Pressing a button automatically lowers the Wagoneer L’s optional second and third row seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Q7 doesn’t offer automatic folding second row seats.

The Wagoneer L’s minimum standard towing capacity is much higher than the Q7’s (5640 vs. 4409 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Audi Q7 is only 7716 pounds. The Wagoneer L offers up to a 10,000 lbs. towing capacity.

The Wagoneer L 4WD with optional equipment can be flat towed on all four wheels (dinghy towed), allowing recreational vehicle owners to bring it with them on the road. When they reach their destination, the Wagoneer L can be unhitched and driven around locally. The Q7 can’t be towed flat on the ground.

The Wagoneer L’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Q7 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Wagoneer L has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the Q7 only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

The Wagoneer L has standard front air conditioned seats and the Wagoneer L Grand Series III also has them in the second row. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Q7 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats for the second row.

The Wagoneer L has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Q7.

The Wagoneer L has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Q7 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Wagoneer L is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Q7 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Wagoneer L first among large suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Q7 isn’t in the top three.

The Jeep Wagoneer outsold the Audi Q7/SQ7 by almost three to one during 2024.
