Compare the2025 Jeep Wagoneer LVS 2025 GMC Yukon XL

The Jeep Wagoneer L has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Yukon XL doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Wagoneer L has standard Active Headrests, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Headrests system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Yukon XL doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Jeep Wagoneer L achieved a “Acceptable” rating - the second highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The GMC Yukon XL has not been tested.

Both the Wagoneer L and the Yukon XL have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive, night vision systems, around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

The Jeep Wagoneer L achieved a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the 2024 model year. This recognition was based on its impressive performance in the small overlap frontal crash test, updated side impact crash test, headlight evaluations, and pedestrian crash prevention testing. The Yukon XL has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

The Wagoneer L’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the Yukon XL’s (unlimited vs. 100,000 miles).

Jeep pays for scheduled maintenance on the Wagoneer L for 2 years and unlimited miles. Jeep will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance (up to 2 visits). GMC only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Yukon XL.

There are over 43 percent more Jeep dealers than there are GMC dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Wagoneer L’s warranty.

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the engines in the Wagoneer L have an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of some of the engines in the Yukon XL.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Wagoneer L has a 240-amp alternator. The Yukon XL’s standard 220-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Wagoneer L offers larger standard and optional batteries than the Yukon XL:

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Jeep vehicles are more reliable than GMC vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Jeep 1 place higher in reliability than GMC.

The Wagoneer L’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder produces 65 more horsepower (420 vs. 355) and 85 lbs.-ft. more torque (468 vs. 383) than the Yukon XL’s standard 5.3 V8. The Wagoneer L’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder produces 8 lbs.-ft. more torque (468 vs. 460) than the Yukon XL Denali’s standard 6.2 V8. The Grand Wagoneer L’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder produces 120 more horsepower (540 vs. 420) and 61 lbs.-ft. more torque (521 vs. 460) than the Yukon XL Denali’s standard 6.2 V8.

On the EPA test cycle the Wagoneer L gets better mileage than the Yukon XL:

The Wagoneer L has 2.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the Yukon XL (30.5 vs. 28.3 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Wagoneer L has a standard locking fuel door which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the Yukon XL. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

For better stopping power the Wagoneer L’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the Yukon XL:

The Wagoneer L’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Yukon XL AT4’s standard 60 series tires.

The Wagoneer L has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the Wagoneer L flat and controlled during cornering. The Yukon XL’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

For better maneuverability, the Wagoneer L’s turning circle is 1.1 feet tighter than the Yukon XL’s (42.2 feet vs. 43.3 feet). The Wagoneer L’s turning circle is 2.5 feet tighter than the Yukon XL Denali Ultimate w/24” wheels’ (42.2 feet vs. 44.7 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Wagoneer L has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Yukon XL Denali Ultimate Air Ride (8.3 vs. 7.31 inches), allowing the Wagoneer L to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Wagoneer L Air Suspension’s minimum ground clearance is 2.2 inches higher than on the Yukon XL AT4 (10 vs. 7.8 inches).

The Wagoneer L uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Yukon XL doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Wagoneer L has 8.5 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Yukon XL (179.3 vs. 170.8).

The Wagoneer L has 1.9 inches more front hip room, .6 inches more front shoulder room, 1.1 inches more rear headroom, .7 inches more rear legroom, 1.7 inches more rear hip room, .5 inches more rear shoulder room, .9 inches more third row headroom, 2.2 inches more third row hip room and 1.6 inches more third row shoulder room than the Yukon XL.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Wagoneer L’s middle and third row seats recline. The Yukon XL’s third row seats don’t recline.

Maximum trailer towing in the GMC Yukon XL is limited to 8300 pounds. The Wagoneer L offers up to a 10,000 lbs. towing capacity.

The Wagoneer L has a higher standard payload capacity than the Yukon XL (1410 vs. 1360 lbs.).

The Wagoneer L has a higher maximum payload capacity than the Yukon XL (1550 vs. 1430 lbs.).

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Yukon XL, the Wagoneer L Grand offers an optional passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, foot pedal distance, outside mirror angle and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Wagoneer L Grand’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches. The Yukon XL’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Wagoneer L offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Yukon XL doesn’t offer cornering lights.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Wagoneer L to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Yukon XL doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Wagoneer L has standard front air conditioned seats and the Wagoneer L Grand Series III also has them in the second row. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Yukon XL doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats for the second row.
